Spring has finally arrived and we are excited about new possibilities on the horizon for our students! It is also a time when your support is especially needed.

Some of our funding this year will go to help students who are bright and talented but not yet able to pass the TASC (GED) test. Certain students will be able to sign up for specific college classes while they continue to work with our tutors to improve their math, reading or writing skills.

   We are pleased to announce our newest program, Transitions to Higher Education and Employment. Two students have been chosen to work side by side with volunteers from Tiny Homes for Good to learn basic carpentry skills over the summer. They will receive a small stipend for this work which will be provided through a grant. They will also continue their tutoring sessions at The Newland Center.  Both non-profits will receive funding from this grant to support our work with the students. If you would like to sponsor a student for the Transitions program, please contact our office for more information.

The Newland Center for Adult Learning & Literacy has provided basic literacy services to the Syracuse community for over twenty-seven years. Funding comes primarily from individual donations, small fundraisers and grants.

  Those of you who were not able to contribute to our last appeal have another opportunity to give a donation! The Joan Rothenberg Family Foundation once again will match contributions dollar for dollar for this appeal. For our students, more contributions mean increasing opportunities for them to work toward achieving their education and employment goals.
